I Did It!

I Did It!

Sold my book? No. Not yet.

But I did get my oldest daughter, my first to leave the nest, settled into college seven hours away. And I'm proud to say I did it with a minimum of tears. (Although I lost it after I returned home and popped my head into her still messy room, which still smelled of her incense, and didn't see her lying in bed watching TV.) It was difficult seeing her so happy to be rid of me and hearing her say "Too much love. Too much love," when I hugged her goodbye (and had a bit of trouble getting myself to let go.) As much as I miss her, I'm so proud of the woman she's become, and excited for the journey she is about to take. (And yet I can't help but wonder how she'll manage without me there to nag remind her what needs to be done!)

On the writing front, in the midst of shopping, packing, and traveling, I finished my third rewrite/revision of my WIP and all 54,918 words are in my editor's mailbox waiting to be read. With all the contests Mills and Boon have been running lately, I don't anticipate an answer anytime soon.

Although I'm tempted to give myself a break, maybe read a few books (in between hourly e-mail checks and blogging), I have plenty to keep me busy while I wait. I'm working on a collaboration with three wonderful women, all romance writers, and now friends. I'm very excited about it. At the same time I will begin brainstorming another medical romance and maybe dabble in my military series which sadly has taken a backseat of late.

So what's new with you? Share your successes, I can't wait to read about them.

  1. Hugs to you!! Congratulations about your daughter and her college experience. I might need to call you when it is my turn to say goodbye to my teenager (so they leave the mess behind? Sigh). And hope your editor is totally happy with your revision. Can't wait to read the book.

  2. So excited for your daughter, and hugs to you.

My biggest accomplishment recently is getting my son a haircut--and I didn't even do that, hubby did.

Nah, not really. Baby boy and his marching band competed on Saturday at their first contest. I got program props on and off the football field in record time. I'm pooped.

Go ahead, read a book or two, refresh that muse. :)

  3. Hi Christine!
I cleaned half her room, to make it look different so I wouldn't expect to see her there. Hope you had a great conference.

    Hi Jen!
An accomplishment is an accomplishment, no matter how small! Good job with the band's program props!

  4. Pour yourself a glass on congratulatory something! Getting that first one out of the nest is a huge milestone, both joyful and heartwrenching.

I finally gave up trying to find someone to fix the html on my blog and fixed it myself. It took me 6 hours to first learn how to fix html and then correct all the problems, but I'm much happier with the result and hope visitors will have a better experience now when they stop by.

  6. Hi Regina!
What exactly is an html. I know I've seen the letters before but have no idea what they mean. I am totally impressed you fixed the problem and that you stuck to it for six hours. You go girl!!!

Thanks, Abbi. And I hope so.

  7. Whoo hoo! Revisions away! I know it was a heck of a lot of work so I'll just repeat what Regina said: pour yourself a glass of something sparkling and prop up your feet. Enjoy a breather. You DESERVE it!

Hope you hear back from the ed with good news soon!

  8. Getting those revisions out the door with all else that was going on in your life at the time is an awesome accomplishment. You will be a success in this business because you have both talent and the passion to get the job done. Kudos!

  9. Html is the programming language (at least i think that's what you'd call it) that makes what appears on screen look the way it does. The template I used for my blog was free, but it was also corrupt and had to be adjusted to work properly.

  10. Isnt' that the BEST feeling to send your baby away after endless hours of toiling and fixing and serving? I don't mean your daughter this time - your ms. Congratulations - I hope you do take a bit of a break because you truly deserve it. You are an incredible woman and so very talented. Onward to the next project!!!!

  11. Hi Amy!
Woo hoo to you, too! Fingers crossed for both of us!

    Thanks, Taryn!
Good luck with your upcoming new releases!

You have a great blog template, Regina! Your hard work has paid off.

Yes it is, Jen (at least until I get the request for more revisions!) I can't wait to really delve into our new project.

  15. Sounds like you handled the parting with grace! I would have been a total mess.

Grats on finishing your revisions! Definitely reward yourself with a few good books--you've earned it! :)

  16. Thanks, Angela! I just finished Elizabeth Hoyt's To Seduce a Sinner and Wicked Intentions. (I guess I'm in a historical mood after finishing work on my contemporary.) Both were excellent. I've got Kristan Higgins' All I Ever Wanted up next. Back to contemporary then back to work!
