Define Sexy

I tried to copy and paste pictures of sexy men to liven up this post, but couldn't figure out how to do it. (Terri, I need help!)

Dictionary.com defines sexy as:
- Concerned predominantly or excessively with sex
- Sexually interesting or exciting
- Radiating sexuality
- Excitingly appealing
- Arousing or tending to arouse sexual desire or interest

Romance writers portray sexy as an alpha male, tall, muscular, good looking, financially successful and if not, they're do-gooders who ooze moral character. They're wealthy businessmen, sports figures, cowboys, lawmen, doctors, lawyers, Navy Seals and the like. I admit, I love to read about them when they're written this way. But I've gotta tell ya, in my opinion, there's something about a man who works with his hands, who builds things or fixes things, that I find extremely sexy. Mechanics. Maintenance men. Landscapers. Builders. (Hold the beer guts please!) And I don't have a particular look that I find sexy. It's more an attitude. Kindness and courtesy mixed with confidence and playfulness.

So what type of man rings your bell? What's your definition of sexy?

  1. My wonderful husband does it for me!!! He is an immensely capable human being from many vantage points: emotionally available, thoughtful, compassionate, level headed when in the thick of things, mechanically inclined and very goal oriented. But he floats through life with an unassuming demeanor and loves a challenge. He has a quick dry wit and is silly as can be; he will dance to any beat, even a metal zipper banging inside the dryer. For all these reason and more I find him sexy and lovable...and most importantly, he is quite pure of heart. No, college degrees and men wearing suits are not sexy to me... but the character of a man who will buy a homeless man a hamburger who is standing outside McDonalds can win my heart.

  2. Hi Wendy,
To get pictures, it's not too hard. If you're using the "new style" post editor (the old-style editor is probably not much different, but I've never used it), at the top of the edit window is a list of formatting widgets (for bold and italic, etc). LINK is one of them, and just to the right of that is a little "picture." Click that and a dialog will pop up where you can paste in the URL of the picture if it's from the web (right click on the image, and select something like "copy image location" -- the wording will depend on your browser). If you have the picture on your computer, then use the browse button rather than the URL box.

  4. Welcome John!
That's twice in one day you've answered my questions. Thanks! And I apologize for neglecting the male definition of sexy in my post. Usually only women comment on my blog! But men are welcome!!! So feel free to join in if you'd like.

  5. I too like a man who works with his hands. Do you remember the Diet Coke guy...sigh...
From the show Lost I like Sawyer more than Jack. Sawyer is what I call dirty sexy.

  6. I realized after I submitted the comment that I didn't respond at all to the main thrust of your post. I don't know that I have an answer for your question (for either sex, I'm afraid). Well, okay -- smart, funny, fit and caring (and an English accent never hurts).

But I answered your picture question only because I saw it when I checked-out who you were. You're the first person (other than my son) who's commented on my blog, so that makes you special. It happens that my wife and I both grew up in Hyde Park in the mid-Hudson valley, so it was cool to see you're in that general area too.

So this is probably the last you'll hear from me -- I don't read or write romance (though I enjoy watching romantic films -- go figure). Strangely, we were friends with Danelle Harmon back when she was first published, if any of you remember her (seems like she stopped writing a few years ago).

Good luck, take care, and keep writing, always.

  9. Hi Wendy,

I have a thing for tall blond men. I'm not talking the peroxide white people think of as blond these days, but the true light honey color. There can be twenty handsomer men in the room, but if there is one tall blond my eye will go to him first. Can't explain why, it just does.

  10. Hi Regina!
Dark hair does it for me, which means we'll never fight over the same guy!!!

  11. I am sending one to you (by e-mail), but I warn you that it may be a little too sizzling. The nice folks @eyeonromance posted it a few weeks ago. It keeps me warm and toasty. As far as posting pix on your blog, when you are writing the blog, there should be a little clicky symbol on the top of the composition box, where there are such things as fonts and italics and what-not. Then you just have to upload a picture you've saved. Et voila!

  12. Liz --OMG, yes, the Diet Coke guy. With all the women in the office staring at the window at him!
You'll appreciate this. During the snooze-worthy moments of the Olympics, on nights like last night when nothing else is on, I hit the DVR, where scores of NCIS repeats (I never saw them b/c I never watched the show until this season) are stored. So last night I was watching a really old one -- I think from Season 1 b/c they still had Kate (not dead yet), no Ziva and no McGee. Anyway, a scavenger finds a Marine's severed leg and calls the LEO's to the scene before NCIS. When NCIS they take the crime scene over from the local officer -- SAWYER!! All dressed up in a parking ranger looking uniform. Although it was supposed to be in W.Va, he was still dripping that molasses honey KY (Kentucky, not jelly) accent!! Oooh.
